How to Handle Back Pain?

1. Maintain Good Posture

Sitting for a long period of time and maintaining a bad posture put unnecessary strain on your back says Chiropractor, Thomas Gehrmann. You put pressure on your back by slouching when carrying out your daily activities. The pressure can be taken off the nerve cells when you keep the right amount of curvature in the back area. Always sit upright with your shoulder relaxed and keep your feet inputting the ground. Consider changing your position twice an hour to relax your body and help prevent back pain. Another way to go about it is to put a pillow between your seat and lower back to prevent bad posture  This will reduce back pain with time.

2. Have Adequate Sleep

Sleeping can be very difficult when suffering from back pain however, it is achievable. Your body becomes weak when you don’t have adequate sleep which can worsen pain. Moreover, but sleeping with a bad posture is also a culprit that can aggravate back pain. Therefore, always maintain a good sleeping position. This can be achieved by sleeping on your side and putting a pillow between your kneel to help relieve strain and also keep the spine in a good position. Sleeping on your back in a comfortable bed can also relieve pain.

3. Exercise Daily

Exercising is often the best therapy for back pain says “Thomas Gehrmann”. “A simple exercise like walking keeps the body in a neutral position which helps to prevent back pain. However, it is important to walk in moderation and avoid strenuous activities as it often leads to severe pain,” he adds.

4. Visit a Chiropractor

There is no magic to let pain disappears overnight but your best bet is to visit a specialist if the pain in the back persists. While some patient needs stretching and improved flexibility, others might need spinal adjustments or manipulation. Therefore, you need to set an appointment with a chiropractor who will diagnose you and give you the right treatment.   

5. Improve your Flexibility

Putting a lot of tension on your muscle and joint can lead to pain in the back. Increasing your flexibility will help reduce muscle tightness and allows the equal load to be distributed throughout your body. You can also improve your body flexibility by practicing simple exercise or yoga.

6. Application of Ice and Heat

The application of ice and heat at different intervals to areas where you feel pain on your back helps to reduce pain. Ice can be applied many times a day between 48 hours of injury. The ice pack should be wrapped in a towel to protect the skin and you can use heat after some days, recommended by Thomas Gehrmann. The application of heat with a heating pad will help to improve blood flow and muscle relaxation. However, do not sleep with the heated pad as it can damage your tissues and burn your skin.
